Injured pace bowler Abul Hasan underwent a successful operation on his backbone in Australia on Monday that had prevented him from participating in all sorts of cricket activities since the second away Test against Sri Lanka this year. Abul, who shot to fame in his debut Test against the West Indies last year by cracking a century coming in at number ten, hardly took his career any further in the national level as he was constantly battling with injuries.
Despite making such a memorable debut, he could not feature in the ensuing five-match ODI series after incurring a side-strain while he also received a backbone injury during the second edition of the Bangladesh Premier League.
The BCB had tried all sorts of medication that included high-dose pain-relieving injections, however, all went in vain which left him with no other options but to go abroad.
‘[Abul] is fine after the operation though the doctor has not advised him as yet. But usually this kind of injury takes at least three months to heal,’ said BCB physician Debashish Chowdhury.
Surgeon Belham completed the surgery to get rid of Abul’s distress, which is also known as Prolapsed Lumbar Intervertebral Disc.
