Reiterating her call for forming action committee at every election centre, the BNP chairperson and leader of the opposition Begum Khleda Zia on Tuesday again vowed to resist any attempt to hold an one sided election under a party led government.
Addressing a view exchange meeting with the business community in the city, she urged the government not to push the country towards disaster and destruction.
“There are only a few days, remove this single party led autocratic government, the good days would come,” she said amid cheers from the audience. Urging the people to be united against Awami league led government and force them to take the measures for establishing a non-party care taker government, she called upon the people to save democracy and peoples right for voting.
“Still there is time, please behave like a responsible government and try to understand the heart bit of the mass people,” she said categorically denying the possibility of her participation without a non party care taker government during the election time.
The one party led government can not produce any good for the people rather it brings benefit for certain person, she observed. Referring to the various oppressive measures taken by the present government against eminent personalities and prominent institutions, Khaleda Zia said “time has come to remove those from prestigious positions who can not respect people.”
The former premier also assured the business community that if she gets the chance again her party would form a business friendly government in future like it did in the past. She claimed that all the previous governments led by her party were business friendly.
Responding to various demands raised by the business community leader, the former premier said, “We would keep in all these points in minds and forward the country towards a better future over coming existing poor conditions.”
The BNP chairperson further said that the demand for a non party care take government became the demand of the time. She also committed to introduce a new trends of politic in the country if voted to power. “Corruption would not be allowed and country would be run on the basis of concensus and national unity.” Participation of all stakeholders would be given importance.
Urging the business community to remain beside her, Khaleda Zia said a bright picture of the economy would be drawn erasing the gloomy one which has been prevailing in the country for a long time.
Former president of Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Abdul Awal Mintoo, presided over the meting at Bangabandu International Convention Centre.
The meeting organised under the banner of a newly formed Bangladesh Baboshayee Parishad, was also addressed by acting secretary general of BNP Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossein, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Barkat ullah Bulu MP, BGMEA president Atiqul islam, BKMEA vice president Mohammad Hatem, Abul Khasem Haider and a host of different chamber and association leaders.
Khaleda Zia blasted the government for financial scandal like Hall Mark, Destiny, quick rental power and share market scam. Around 33 lakh small investors were made bankrupt through share market scam, she observed She criticized the government for giving approval to new banks and insurance companies saying that those were meant for grabbing peoples money.
The leader of the opposition also presented a gloomy picture of present economic condition saying that the Awami League led government destroyed all the success and achievement the country had gained earlier. The gross domestic production GDP lowered to below six percent though it had been achieving at the rate of near seven percent during her government, she claimed.
She further said that the GDP this year would not go up beyond 5.3 per cent though the government fixed a target of over seven per cent growth. The slogan of digital Bangladesh became a mockery when the government could not provide gas and electricity to the mills and factories.
“Many entrepreneurs could not go for production though they had set up factories investing millions of Taka,” she said adding that all the private financial institutions were destroyed. The classified loans with the banks also rises.
The rate of inflation went up and the prices of essential items increased three to four times in the last couple of years. But the real income of the people did not increase, she pointed out.
Criticising the government for destroying judiciary she said the total police administrations were brought under the ruling party control. “As a result, there is no safety of the people at all.”
The criminals are controlling the society while all social norms ruined.
The business leaders presented various negative aspects of the present economy. They said the economic condition in the country deteriorated since the present government came to power. They also criticesd governments approval to new banks and insurance companies saying those were aimed to grab people’s money.
Abdul Awal Mintoo termed the ruling Awami League as Khaimu league (swallow league) as it resorted a reign of grabbing money from the government and peoples pocket also.
