Ahsan Habib Kamal took charges as the Barisal city mayor on Tuesday with the vow to transform the city into a developed one. The acting mayor, Altaf Mahmud Sikdar, handed over the charges to Kamal in a programme held at Nagar Bhavan at noon.
In a press briefing following the programme, Kamal said he took the charges with a debt of Tk 143.18 core including arrear dues Tk 6 core for salaries, Tk 17 core for loans from reserved funds, Tk 106.2 core for bills of development works, Tk 9 core for electricity bills of street lamps, Tk 3.98 core for miscellaneous bills and Tk 1 core for fuel of the official vehicles.
He demanded adequate national budget allocations.
