A Singapore-bound Boeing-737 of Bangladesh Biman was forced to land after taking off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Wednesday morning as a bird crashes into one of its engines, the officials said. No untoward incident was reported as the aircraft made an emergency landing at about 8:35am, said airport armed police battalion senior assistant superintendent Alamgir Hossain Shimul.
The aircraft was sent for maintenance as the fan of one of its engines was damaged badly.
The Biman authorities, however, arranged another flight at about 11:35am for 137 passengers travelling by the Singapore-bound Boeing.
A Biman’s senior engineer, seeking anonymity, confirmed that ‘the engine was hit by a bird and we are trying to repair it.’
Asked about the bird, the airport director, Wing Commander Zakir Hossain, told New Age that it was an engine glitch that made heavy vibration in the engine.
