Popular band Pentagon is going to celebrate its 20th founding anniversary at a programme today at the Café 33 at Baily Road in the capital.
The band was formed on October 12 in 1993 by Mohammad Ali Sumon, Shouquat Ali Imon, Ranjan, Shelly and Babu. Since then the band has presented many popular songs and has launched two musical albums titled Shei Ami and Eight O’ Clock. The first lineup up of the band was Sumon on vocal and guitar, Ranjan on acoustic drums and vocal, Imon on keyboard, Babu on guitar, and Shelly on bass.
However, many artistes from the initial line up left the band due to personal reasons and new members were added. The current line up of the band includes Mohammad Ali Sumon on vocal and guitar, Morshed Khan on bass, Shamm Ibrahim on acoustic drums, Tahsir Maqsoom on keyboard, Ishraque Husain Anita on vocal and high part percussion and AA Mahmood Lonnie on guitarist and back up vocal.
One of the band members, Anita, shared with New Age that, ‘As all the former and current members were present at the programme, it was like a reunion party,’ said Anita.
Anita also informed that in celebration of the founding anniversary, the band will perform at two live shows – October 20 on Maasranga TV and October 25 on Desh TV – where the band will perform its popular numbers.
