The fifth elected body of the Bangladesh Cricket Board headed by Nazmul Hasan took over charge after the first board meeting of the executive members as the ad-hoc executive committee was dissolved on Sunday. The National Sports Council on November 27 last year formed a 13-member ad-hoc executive committee led by Nazmul to hold the much-anticipated election.
The tenure of the BCB’s previous elected committee expired on November 26.
The ad-hoc committee held its last meeting at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium where several members of the present executive committee were present.
The ad-hoc committee’s chapter was closed when Nazmul asked his other colleagues of the 26-member board to join him in the first official board meeting of the executive members.
‘We had a meeting of the ad-hoc committee before we handed over the responsibility to the new committee,’ Nazmul told reporters at the press briefing at Mirpur.
‘In the ad-hoc committee we had 13 members whereas we have 26 members in the new committee that provides us with the opportunity to share the responsibility with them in a better way as it was observed that there are lots to be done ahead,’ said Nazmul.
Five executive members – Enayet Hossain Siraj, Afzalur Rahman Sinha and Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel were not present due to personal reasons while Akram Khan and AZM Nasir were performing their duty in Chittagong where Bangladesh drew the first of two Test matches against New Zealand that came to an end on Sunday.
Nazmul remarked that after the Eid holidays, the new committee will decide the two vice-presidents of cricket’s governing body while they will also consider the name of the new director scheduled to come from the NSC.
‘In the next meeting we will decide about the process which will be followed to appoint the two vice-presidents. After going through the constitution I was told that the executive members will decide about the process which needs to be followed in this regard,’ said Nazmul.
‘Everyone has a chance to represent the NSC provided he is a councillor, including [Gazi Ashraf] Lipu,’ said Nazmul.
‘Before Eid-ul-Azha we did not want to take this major decision. But I will ask [Lipu] to continue with his duty as he is the organising secretary of the ongoing home series against New Zealand,’ he added.
Lipu lost to Khaled Mahmud in category three of the recently-concluded election.
Meanwhile, Nazmul informed reporters that they had finalised the formation of the tribunal that they will send to the International Cricket Council today but refrained from announcing the names until it was made official by the highest governing body of world cricket.
‘We finalised the tribunal and will send it to the ICC tomorrow [today] and we will inform you [media] after that is done,’ said Nazmul.
It was learnt that Justice Abdur Rashid will head the 10-member disciplinary panel that will deal with the match-fixing allegations of the second edition of the Bangladesh Premier League.
