At least seven policemen, including an officer-in-charge, were injured in a gunfight with ‘robbers’ at Musapur under Companyganj upazila in Noakhali early Sunday.
Companyganj police officer-in-charge Sajedur Rahman said a team of police aided by Chittagong police arrested two members of inter-district robbers’ gang—Sheikh Kamal and Jahangir Alam— from Akbar Shah area in the port city of Chittagong Saturday afternoon.
Later, the police team along with the two arrested men conducted a drive at night at the house of Mizan, another member of the robbers’ gang, in Musapur area, and recovered a single barrel gun and two bullets from the house.
At one stage, the other members of the gang opened fire on the police team in a bid to snatch the two arrested robbers in Temuhani area on their way back to police station shortly after midnight.
The law enforces also fired back in retaliation, triggering a gunfight, leaving seven cops and two robbers-Kamal and Jahangir— injured.
