Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Benazir Ahmed categorically said that police imposed ban on all types of rally, processions in the capital for security of the city dwellers.
He came up with the assertion while addressing a relief goods distribution programme at a slum at Hazaribagh Beribadh area in the capital on Sunday which was gutted in a devastating fire on October 16. Benazir Ahmed said, “For public safety we had to impose ban on gathering, as the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) directed its supporters to bring machetes and axes in the rally on October 25.” He also said that there was no political connection with the restriction.
Earlier, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) imposed an indefinite ban on holding any kind of meeting, procession, rally and human chains in the capital for an indefinite period from Sunday morning to avert anarchy and confrontation.
