1 dead, another injured
A domestic help died and another was critically injured after allegedly falling off the roof a seven-storey building in Khulshi residential area in Chittagong city yesterday.
Dilder Begum, 25, and Sanjida Khatun, 13, both of Teknaf, had been working as domestic helps at the flat of Ahmed Nabi, a business man.Nabi and his family went into hiding after the incident.
Mohammed Taju, the building’s guard, said he heard two loud bangs at about 10:30am and found the girls lying on the ground unconscious and bleeding.
A driver of Nabi took the girls to Chittagong Medical College Hospital and fled from the hospital.
Dilder was declared dead while Sanjida was undergoing treatment. Later a paper containing phone numbers of Sanjida’s relatives was found with Sanjida.
Family members of the victims claimed Nabi and his family used to mistreat the domestic workers.
Hospital sources said Sanjida was out of danger.
After investigation, it will be clear whether the girls jumped off or were pushed, said Sub-Inspector of Khulsi Police Station Kawsar Ahmed Bhuyian.
