Scholarship money was distributed among the meritorious school-going children of Patuakhali-based journalists under joint initiative of BRAC Bank Limited and Patuakhali Journalists Development Trust (PJD Trust). A total of 40 students received scholarship money in a ceremony held at Dr. Atahar Uddin Auditorium at Patuakhali Press Club recently.Presided over by Gazi Munibur Rahman Bachchu, president of editorial board of weekly Priyo Kagoj and trustee of PJD Trust, the ceremony was also attended by Zeeshan Kingshuk Huq, head of communication and service quality of BRAC Bank as the special guest.
This is a unique and the first such scholarship programme designed for meritorious children of journalist community.
Under the programme titled ‘PJD Trust – BRAC Bank Scholarship’, a total of 40 school-going children of as many newsmen get Tk. 10,000 each in a year as scholarship to continue their studies. The programme began in 2010 and will run for five years.
Also present as the special guests were Professor A. K. M. Shahidul Islam, former principal of Patuakhali Government College and convener of scholarship selection panel, Md. Shafiqur Rahman Chan Mia, president of Patuakhali Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Swapan Banerjee, president of Patuakhali Press Club.
Md. Golam Rabbi Taha, chairperson of PJD Trust, made welcome speech. A Dua Mehfil was offered for late Golam Mustafa Talukder, founder of PJD Trust.
