Barisal Education Board has decided to upgrade 56 junior secondary schools to secondary schools. Mustafizur Rahman, deputy director of secondary and higher secondary education directorate and member of school grants committee in Barisal, said the decision was made in a meeting of the committee held on October 21 and it would be effective from the upcoming educational session.
Professor Bimal Krishna Majumdar, chairman of Barisal Education Board, said a large number of junior schools have applied for starting secondary school curriculum or upgrade as regular secondary schools.
The school grants committee of BEB after scrutinising and considering the number of students, teachers and infrastructural facilities decided to upgrade 40 junior schools to secondary schools as per directions of the education ministry.
Sixteen more junior schools would also be upgraded as secondary schools after taking approvals from the ministry, BEB chairman said.
The upgraded secondary schools are permitted to start courses of only humanities group as number of students and teachers was yet to be sufficient for science and business studies, said Abul Bashar, inspector of schools BEB.
