Al Amin called in as replacement
Pace bowler Shafiul Islam has been ruled out of the three-match one-day series against New Zealand after incurring an ankle injury on Sunday.
Shafiul sustained the injury at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium while the Tigers were going through their warm-up session. ‘Shafiul is ruled out of the ODI series,’ national team physio Vibhav Singh told reporters after assessing his condition.
‘He is having swelling in the right ankle so we decided to do a scan after two days but there is no possibility of a comeback before four-six weeks,’ he said.
The incident occurred when Shafiul tried to get
past Mashrafee bin Murtaza in a tennis-ball passing game between two teams.
Rubel Hossain passed a ball with his hands to Shafiul who tried to pass it to a teammate before Mashrafee ran towards him to get hold of the ball.
Shafiul lost his balance and fell down injuring his ankle and was rushed back to the dressing room immediately.
Al Amin Hossain, who made his Test debut in the second and final Test against New Zealand, was drafted in as a replacement for Shafiul.
Meanwhile, the Tigers received a positive news regarding batsman Mominul Haque who could not join practice due to a fever.
‘[Mominul’s] blood test report is fine but he did not join because of a weakness,’ said BCB physician Debashish Chowdhury.
‘He was in the hotel and did swimming and some other activities. There is no major problem regarding the fever apart from the weakness. He has also been unable to take food because of distaste in his mouth,’ he said.
The first one-dayer will take place at Mirpur on Tuesday.
