3-day blockade from Monday

Oppn men being killed at govt’s behest : BNP
The BNP alleged on Wednesday that opposition leaders and activists were being killed and tortured across the country at the behest of the government, reports UNB.
“The government is creating anarchy in the country to cling to power illegally. The leaders and activists of the 18-party are being killed and repressed with the government’s patronage,” said BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
The BNP leader came up with the allegation at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office on the day.
Rizvi alleged 18 people were killed by the government across the country in the last three days while huge opposition leaders and activists injured and arrested during the period. “The government has resorted to inhuman torture and repression on the opposition to hold a unilateral election.”
Criticisng the government for bomb blasts at the houses of BNP leaders, Rizvi said the bombs were hurled at the houses of political leaders, including BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, as dictated by the government.
Unidentified miscreants blasted two crude bombs at Fakhrul’s Uttara house around 9.30pm on Tuesday night.
Earlier on Monday, the miscreants hurled bombs and fired gunshots at the houses of BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas, Dhaka city unit BNP convener Sadeque Hossain Khoka, member secretary Abdus Salam and Dhaka district BNP president Abdul Mannan.
The BNP leader alleged that Chandpur Superintendent of Police got desperate as he is repressing and misbehaving the 18-party leaders and activists. “He turned Chandpur into a slaughter house for killing people.”
The BNP leader was also critical of Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, saying he is making indecent and disparaging remarks against the opposition leader.
Meanwhile, hot on the heels of its 60-hour shutdown, the BNP-led 18-party alliance is planning to enforce a three-day nonstop nationwide road and railway blockade programme on Monday to force the government for holding the next national election under a non-party administration.
The opposition alliance may also hold rallies on Saturday across the country, including the capital, demanding the release of the opposition leaders and activists arrested from October 25 to October 29 and protesting the killing of opposition men during the period.
BNP standing committee members gave the go-ahead signal to the action programmes at a meeting on Tuesday night held with party chairperson Khaleda Zia in the chair at her Gulshan office, a standing committee member told the news agency preferring not to be named.
After the end of the opposition’s 60-hour nonstop nationwide hartal programme, the BNP policymakers sat in the meeting around 9:40pm that continued for around an hour.
