Team BJMC on Thursday became the first top-flight club to complete the players’ registration formalities for the upcoming 2013-14 season.
Much like the previous two seasons, BJMC have again targeted fourth position in the domestic football league and lined up their team with a number of young players.
After a 26-year hiatus, BJMC returned to the top flight in the 2011-12 season and ended in fourth place followed by a similar finish in the 2012-13 season.
However, last season can hardly be called a success as they failed to reach the last four in three tournaments – Federation Cup, Independence Cup and Super Cup.
BJMC have lost some of their strength for the forthcoming season through the departures of national striker Toklish Ahmed and defender Kesto Kumar.
Former national goalkeeper Aminul Haque and midfielder Abul Hossain have also left BJMC, further weakening the club.
The new season is scheduled to get underway from the third week of November.
‘As a team from government organisation, we had some financial limitations while forming the squad but we believe we will be able to produce some stunning results against teams who are expected to form formidable squads this season,’ said BJMC director Arif Khan Joy at the BFF House on Thursday.
BJMC have appointed Ali Asgar Nasir as head coach in place of Zakaria Babu, who guided the club in the last two seasons.
Nasir expressed his confidence about improving their league position.
‘I have good faith on myself and I believe BJMC will do better than last season as the players that I have are far better ones than the players I had earlier worked with at different clubs,’ said Nasir, who will be working alongside team advisor Wazed Gazi.
