At least 20 people, including a policeman, were injured as cricket fans and police locked in a clash at Chashara in Narayanganj on Friday morning, over Bangladesh-New Zealand cricket match ticket. According to the police, a group of cricket fans staged a rally on the Bangabandhu Road in Chashara area after hearing that the tickets for the 3rd ODI match would be sold on Saturday, instead of Friday.
The agitated cricket fans threw brick bats at the United Commercial Bank (UCB) Narayanganj branch and vandalised some 15-20 vehicles passing through the area. On information, police rushed to the spot and tried to bring the situation under control. A chase and counter-chase took place between police and protesters and at least 20 people, including a cop, were injured when law enforcers fired several shots to bring the situation under control. Manjur Quader, officer-in-charge (OC) of Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station said the cricket fans became angry when they heard that the tickets for the 3rd ODI cricket match would be sold on Saturday instead of Friday. Police detained nine people from the spot, the OC added.
