A group of Dhaka University teachers and students, teamed up as Sampradayikata Biradhi Chhatra Shikkhak Mancha, on Thursday demanded immediate arrest of the miscreants who attacked the Hindu minorities in Pabna and Lalmonirhat. They placed the demand at a human chain at the base of Dhaka University’s Aparajeya Bangla. Asking the government to ensure exemplary punishment, they also demanded compensation and rehabilitation for the victims.
DU Bangla department professor Soumitra Sekhar said, ‘Despite not being a part of any political party, minorities always come under attack in any turmoil situation.’
Jagannath Hall provost Aswim Sarkar urged the government to take exemplary action against the attackers and to make Bangladesh a secular one.
Former Jagannath Hall provost Ajay Ray, mass communication and journalism teacher Robayet Ferdous, Sanskrit professor Narayan Chandra Bishwas, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
