Hasina takes one for Rangpur-6 constituency
The ruling Awami League (AL) on Monday continued distribution of nomination forms for the second day to aspirants seeking AL tickets for the10th parliamentary polls scheduled to be held in January. On Monday, the day began with the collection of nomination form for Rangpur-6 constituency by AL Treasurer HN Ashiqur Rahman on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is the president of the party. Hasina won the parliamentary seat in the last election. The constituency falls in Pirgancha of Rangpur, the ancestral place of Hanina’s father-in-law.
Earlier on Sunday, the party started distribution process of its nomination forms first with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and party general secretary LGRD and cooperative minister Syed Ashraful Islam bought the form for her.
The MP aspirants can collect and submit nomination forms at the central office till November 16 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The date for form distribution and submission might be extended later, said party sources.
Some 476 forms were collected on the second day of the process, which also fetched Tk 1.19 crore as fees. Out of 476 forms, 126 were collected by the aspirants of Dhaka, 57 by Rajshahi, 46 Rangpur, 56 Khulna, 34 Sylhet, 53 by Barisal and 104 by Chittagong division.
Rangpur Divisional AL organising secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said, “We are very happy as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina collected nomination form for Rangpur-6 constituency. It’s a matter of pride having the prime minister as a lawmaker of the constituency.”
“Irrespective party affiliation, we all would work for the premier to make her victorious in the next polls,” he added.
