The Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis failed to deliver its verdict regar ding the Sheikh Jamal- Brothers Union match as the body finds itself trapped between the heavyweight club organisers.
A decision from the CCDM regarding Sheikh Jamal’s complaint against Brothers for fielding a suspended Sohrawardi Shuvo during their first-round match was expected to come on Tuesday.
However, after completing a hearing with the match referee, club officials and the player, the CCDM did not take the risk of making an official announcement and sent their observations to the BCB, seeking a resolution in 48 hours.
Insiders said that the CCDM could not give the verdict as Sheikh Jamal are backed by at least three directors in Manjur Kader, Nazib Ahmed and Sawkat Aziz Khan, while Brothers have AZM Nasir and Ismail Haider Mallick on their side.
‘We had the hearing and sent our observation to BCB to make the final decision,’ CCDM vice-chairman Nazmul Karim said on Tuesday.
‘We asked them to give the decision within two days,’ added Nazmul, presiding over the meeting in the absence of chairman Jalal Yunus, who is currently in London.
Brothers’ Shuvo was suspended after the match against Abahani for misbehaviour but played the next game against big-spenders Jamal and led his side to six-wicket win. The defeat meant Jamal were eliminated from a Super League place and Brothers progressed instead of them.
Brothers said that they did not have any information about the suspension, as the CCDM did not inform it officially. The CCDM, however, denied the allegation and said an official had received the letter.
