Former national skipper Faruk Ahmed has been earmarked as the next chief selector, with sources saying on Monday that he is seriously considering the position after the Bangladesh Cricket Board approached him recently. The BCB has been looking for a new national chief selector since former chief selector Akram Khan left the job to take on his BCB directorship responsibilities.Minhazul Abedin and Habibul Bashar, the other two members the Akram-led selection panel that came together after the 2011 World Cup, still hold their posts.
Faruk, who led Bangladesh in their disastrous ICC Trophy campaign in 1994, was also the chief selector from 2003 to 2007.
He played a key role in promoting some young players like Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal in his first term as chief selector.
According to sources, the BCB’s back-up choice is former chief selector Rafiqul Alam should Faruk turn down the position.
The BCB is looking to complete the new selection panel as soon as possible in order to allow it to select the squad for the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka in January.
