The members of Baul Bazar presented songs of leading bards at a programme held at the Music and Dance Centre of
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Monday.
With acoustics of traditional instruments dhol, ektara, dotara the singers in solos rendered songs composed by Fakir Lalon Shah, Hason Raja, Shah Abdul Karim, Pagol Chanchal, Kabi Jalal, Baul Alauddin, and many others.
The show began with Mohammad Shaheed Sarkar’s presentation of Kabi Razzak Dewan’s melancholic song Amar phagun niviya gelo, which depicted the agony of the poet over his lost love.
Baul Shaheen, on the other hand, entertained the listeners with his presentation of legendary baul Lalon Fakir Shah’s Balo swarup kothai tomar sadher piyari and baul Shah Abdul Karim’s Keno piriti barailare bandho in his powerful voice.
Shah Abul Karim’s another moving song Range duniya torey chayna received loud applause when Mohammad Alamgir presented it.
Hason Raza’s ever popular song Baula ke banailo re made some of the audiences to dance when the song was performed by Baul Akash, who also presented baul Jalal’s song Bhab tarange esho amar songey.
Baul Karim Shah received acclamation from the audience for his presentation of Baul Abul Sarkar’s song Tumi atto bachhor por-e aiya that was synchronised with dhol and percussion. Shah’s another presentation of Jibon Dewan’s Tomar buker singhasoney bandhu amar jaiga nai created a joyous atmosphere in the hall.
Baul Bazar organsied the show as part of its post Eid get-together programme.
A huge audience enjoyed the show.
Sharifuddin Ahmed, a businessman, said that he appreciates the attempt to present songs of different less known bards along with the popular ones like Lalon Shah and Hason Raja.
‘However, I think it is contradictory to the true philosophy of baul songs that upholds peaceful tranquility,’ he added.
