Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam and BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir reportedly held a meeting on Saturday
night to discuss ongoing political impasse.
Fakhrul, however, denied having any meeting with the AL general secretary. Ashraf could not be reached for comment. “There was no such meeting between us today,”
Fakhrul told journalists at party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office around midnight.
“Some TV channels aired the news, but I don’t know where from they got the news. It’s completely baseless,” he added.
BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also denied any such meeting taking place between Syed Ashraf and Mirza Fakhrul.
Earlier, some TV channels, online news portals and the online version of a Bengali daily reported such a meeting.
According to the reports, Ashraf and Fakhrul held the meeting at the Banani residence of a BNP leader.
The meeting took place sometime after 8pm, said the news reports.
