A trial court in Barisal on Tuesday afternoon sentenced a residential hotel manager to life term imprisonment for drug peddling. The accused was Sujan Chandra Gharami, 26, son of the late Nakulesh Chandra Gharami of Ichhapur under Bakerganj in Barisal and former manager of Hotel Multi Plaza at Katpatty Road in the city. Ali Haidar, judge of the tribunal for preventing crime against public safety, handed down the verdict in presence of the accused after examining six witnesses and other evidences.
The court also fined the accused Tk 10,000 or in default 2 more years in prison.
Additional public prosecutor Mansur Ahmed said a team of narcotic control department on September 24, 2012 raiding Hotel Multi Plaza recovered 60 ampoules of Marfin injection from the possession of the hotel manager, Sujan.
Haoladar Sirajul Islam, inspector of the narcotic control department, as complainant lodged a case in this connection with the Kotwali police station the same night.
Police submitted charge sheet against the accused on October 23, 2012.
