President Abdul Hamid on Tuesday underlined the need for a nationwide campaign for eye donation. ‘The religious leaders can help in conducting such kind of motivational campaign for increasing eye donation,’ he said when a delegation of Sandhani National Eye Donation Society led by its president Ali Asgar Morol made a call on him at Bangabhaban Tuesday afternoon.
Noting that superstitions are major obstacles to eye donation, the president said massive campaign needs to be carried out to inspire people in donating eyes.
The president lauded the activities of Sandhani and assured it of his all out cooperation for further development of the society.
The delegation members apprised the president of various activities of the society and said presently Sandhani has its units at 22 medical colleges and the society has 10 eye banks at 8 government medical college hospitals and two private medical college hospitals.
