Jatiya Party faction chairman HM Ershad and senior presidium member Kazi Zafar Ahmed expelled each other on Thursday. Ershad at a meeting with some selected newsmen at a Baridhara hotel announced that he just signed the letter of expulsion of Kazi Zafar for talking against him. The news spread out through electronic media immediately and in less than half an hour, Kazi Zafar issued a letter to the press stating that Ershad was expelled for flouting rules of the party constitution.
‘I have just signed the order of KAzi Zafar’s expulsion. From today Zafar is no more in Jatiya PArty,’ Ershad said adding, ‘For the last few days Zafar was talking against me and I told him not to do so but he continued.’
He said, ‘I spent nearly Tk 30 lakh for medical treatment of ailing Kazi Zafar earlier. Zafar is betrayer.’
In contrast, Kazi Zafar, a former prime minister of Ershad, said that Ershad had no authority to expel him unilaterally without a presidium meeting.
‘Ershad is expelled from the Jatiya Party for flouting rules of the party constitution,’ Zafar told New Age on Thursday afternoon.
