England’s Eoin Morgan, the star performer of the Dhaka Premier League Champions Gazi Tank Cricketers, said on Friday that he had changed his mental approach, and it paid dividends as he helped guide his side to their maiden title. Morgan scored match-winning 84 runs as Gazi defeated Prime Doleshwar by 60 runs on Friday to become the first team to claim the title since the tournament was given List-A status.
Gazi dismissed Doleshwar for 245 runs in 45.4 overs after putting 295-7 on the board at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium to clinch their historic title in a victory engineered by the Irish-born Morgan, who repaid the faith shown in him by team management.
Morgan scored just 70 runs in his first four games since joining the side at the start of the Super League, and his dipping form was a major concern for Gazi Tank officials, but he seized the opportunity and rose to the occasion, putting all his initial failures behind him.
‘I have not made a lot of changes, but it was just that I was much more positive and from there my mindset was just good,’ Morgan said of his return to form.
‘In the first couple of games I was unlucky, but today it was the most important game and we came across the line and [became] champion,’ said Morgan.
‘Batting is a very funny game, where you have lot of downs and very few ups, and today it was an up for which I am very grateful. And to score runs and winning to become number one; it’s all good news today,’ he added.
‘You try as hard as you can for every game and today it just happened to be me to score.’ he said.
Morgan praised his team-mates for putting up an all-round effort to beat their opponents after being sent in to bat.
‘It was really good and we batted really well and scored, particularly in the middle. I think after the openers, me and [Mahmudullah] Riyad really batted well.’
‘Later we put them under pressure by picking up wickets regularly,’ he added.
The left-hander joked that he was looking forward to have some rice in the upcoming days after being awarded a rice cooker for his man-of-the-match effort.
