Recitation artiste Kazi Madina was bestowed with the Naren Biswas Award 2013 at a commemorative programme organised to observe the 15th death anniversary of the late linguist professor Naren Biswas on Friday at the Liberation War Museum in Segun Bagicha.
Madina received the award for his contributions towards developing recitation as a performing art in Bangladesh.The programme was organised by recitation organisation Kanthashilon.
President of the organisation artist Quiyum Chowdhury handed over the award to Madina. General secretary of Shammilito Sanskritik Jot Golam Kuddus, recitation artistes Ahkamullah and Mir Barkat, among others remembered professor Naren Biswas at the commemorative programme.
Followed by discussion session, leading recitation artistes like Kazi Madina, Rafiqul Islam, Shimul Mustafa, Laila Afroz, Iqbal Khorshed Chowdhury, Akram Hossain, Mashkur A Sattar Kallol and others recited poems.
Kanthasilan introduced the Naren Biswas Award following a year after the death of professor Naren Biswas to honour the individuals and organisations as recognitions for their contributions in cultural arena in Bangladesh.
The late linguist and elocutionist professor Naren Biswas was also a poet, playwright, lyricist and critic. He compiled the Bangla Uchcharon Abhidhan. Biswas died on 27 November in 1998.
