Theatre activists in the city enthusiastically celebrated the 33rd founding anniversary of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation, a common platform of theatre activists, on Friday.
The celebration programme began with a colourful procession that travelled from the Natok Sarani (Baily Road) to
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.The present and former presidents and secretary generals of BGTF addressed the rally at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in presence of the representatives from almost all theatre troupes in the country
Ramendu Majumdar, Ataur Rahman, Mamunur Rashid, Nasiruddin Yusuff, Sara Zaker, M Hamid and Devprasad Devnath, among others discussed on the role that BGTF played for the development of theatre practice in the country in the past 33 years.
The session was chaired by the present president of BGTF Liaquat Ali Lucky, who is also the director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Following the discussion, Zahir Raihan’s film on the war of independence in 1971, Stop Genocide, was screened.
The screening session was followed by staging of Tribunal, an awareness generating theatre on the trial of war criminals, which is a BGTF production.
Artistes from different troupes performed in the play, written and directed by Kazi Rafiq.
The programme also featured dance recital and recitations.
Celebrating the 33rd founding anniversary, the federation has taken a four-month work plan to carry out a number of theatre related activities including production of more awareness generating plays to be staged across the country, said the BGTF leaders.
Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation was formed in 1980 with its pledge to nurture theatre activities in the country.
