Cultural organisation Wrishiz Shilpighoshthi celebrated its 37th founding anniversary on Saturday at the Music and Dance Centre of
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Wrishiz also honoured three eminent personalities – professor emeritus Anisuzzaman in education and culture, ATM Shamsuzzaman in acting, and professor Abul Barkat in economics and social welfare – conferring Honorary Citation Awards on the occasion.
The organisation has been conferring the awards to the eminent personalities since 1983.
A number of cultural organisations like Anondom, Kranti, Banhishikha, Udichi Shiligoshthi and Satyen Sen Shilpigoshthi presented people’s songs, patriotic songs and songs featuring the war of independence.
The cultural session began with a chorus presentation of a people’s song Bhoy nei kono bhoy, written by Syed Shamsul Haque.
Artistes of Wrishiz also presented popular people’s songs.
Telecommunications minister Rashed Khan Menon, as the chief guest and secretary of cultural affairs ministry Ranjit Kumar Biswas, as special guest attended the programme.
Director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Liaquat Ali Lucky and vice-president of Sammilito Sangskritik Jot Golam Kuddus delivered speeches at programme, presided by Fakir Alamgir, president of Wrishiz Shilpigoshthi.
Wrishiz Shilpigoshthi was formed in 1976 with an aim to promote mass people’s culture. The organisation is famed for its passion for and presentation of people’s songs.
