Noted singer Tapan Chowdhury entertained the audience with the soulful presentation of popular songs on Saturday at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre at Gulshan 1, Dhaka.
In the solo concert, the singer initially rendered songs of his choice and then presented songs of audience’s choice.
The popular contemporary singer Tapan Chowdhury began his solo with Rabindranath Tagore’s devotional number titled Prokhoro daruno dirgho. His emotional voice modulation transported the aesthetic sentiment of the song to the audience.
He again touched the souls of the listeners by presenting another Tagore’s devotional song Sudhu tomar bani with the acoustics of guitar, tabla and violin.
Tapan Chowdhury shared with the audience that he is a great fan of Hemanga Biswas’ songs and presented one of his favorites Poran bandhu re tui amar, a folk based composition by Biswas.
Most of the songs presented in the evening were sad romantic songs depicting lamentation over separation from the loved ones. A forlorn mood was created through Tapan Chowdhury’s soulful presentation of melancholic songs like Tob-e shesh dekha tai, Akasher shob tara jhor-e jabe and Hai goh hridoy tobu tomar asha keno jay na.
However, no matter how sad and dejected songs Chowdhury rendered, the artiste’s comic remarks between the songs made the audience laugh out loud.
Tapan Chowdhury’s presentation of evergreen song Amai prosno kore neel dhrubotara mixing with its Hindi version Kahin dur jab din dhal jaye delighted the listeners.
A romantic number of the singer Tumi atka hoye amar buke delighted the listeners. With repeated applauses the audience praised Tapan, when he rendered the long awaited song Mon sudhu mon chuyechhe.
Tapan Chowdhury wrapped up the show presenting a patriotic song titled Amar Bangladesh.
A hall full of audience enjoyed the songs. Laila Akbar Nadi and her husband Zafar Akbar, a couple from Badda, came to watch the show. ‘Tapan has always been my favourite artiste so I didn’t miss the opportunity to listen to him live,’ Laila Akbar Nadi told New Age.
While Zafar Akbar said that he enjoyed the concert. ‘It was a congenial concert where I could watch the singer up close and even could talk to him without going through any chaos,’ said Akbar.
