At least 40 people including readymade garment workers were arrested on Sunday in connection to a case filed over an arson attack at a garment factory of the Standard Group at Konabari area of Gazipur on Thursday night. The arrestees include an Imam and a Muazzin of a local mosque in the area. The administrator of human resources department of Matrixport (Bangladesh) Limited of the Standard Group Saidur Rahman filed the case with Joydevpur Police Station against some thousands of unidentified workers of their own factory, and some other garment factories situated at Jorun and Konabari area.
Saidur Rahman claimed that properties worth about 1202-crore taka were destroyed in the arson attack at the factory.
He also said that all the machineries, production materials, raw materials, finished products and furniture, nineteen covered vans, and four microbuses were completely gutted in the attack.
Officer-in-charge of the Detective Branch (DB) of police in Gazipur Abul Khair said “we are investigating the case that was filed with Joydebpur Police Station by the order of higher authorities. Besides, two other committees have started their probe to find out the reasons behind the fire incident.”
