Law enforcers have filed a murder case against 15 leaders of main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) led 18 party alliances, including BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, for Saturday night bus attack that left a man dead and three others injured. Pro-blockade activists numbering 15 to 20 hurled crude bombs on a bus at around 7:45pm Saturday, at Malibagh Chowdhurypara area in the city, and as a result of which the driver of the bus lost control over steering crushing one Habibur Rahman dead and a rickshaw-puller injured.
Two bus passengers also suffered burn injuries in the bomb attack on first day of 72-hour countrywide blockade Saturday, enforced by main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) led 18 party alliances.
Sheikh Maruf Hasan Sardar, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Ramna Zone) told The Independent, “Sub-inspector Zahirul Islam of Ramna police station filed the case against 45 people naming 15 top BNP leaders, including Mirza Fakhrul, Salahuddin, Sadeque Hossain Khoka, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Barkatullah Bulu, Amanullah Aman and Mirza Abbas.
Abu Yusuf, assistant commissioner of DMP (Media and Publication), told The Independent that the complainant filed the case with Ramna police station at around 12:30am on Sunday naming top 15 leaders.
“According to the case statement, the accused top 18 party’s alliances leaders plotted the attack and provided money to the attackers to carryout subversive activities in the city,” Abu Yusuf, assistant commissioner of DMP (Media and Publication) added.
