Bangladeshi golfer Siddikur Rahman’s fourth-place finish at the Indonesia Open on Sunday has enhanced his chances of being a part of Team Asia in the inaugural EurAsia Cup next March.
The EurAsia Cup, a Ryder Cup-styled matchplay competition, will take place in Kuala Lumpur from March 27-29 and will pit a ten-man Team Asia against Team Europe.
Team Asia will consist of captain Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand, the top four available Asian finishers in the 2013 Asian Tour Order of Merit, the top three available
Asian players based on the Official World Gold Ranking, and two captain’s picks.
Siddik is currently the second-ranked Asian player – and third overall – on the Order of Merit with US$486,667 after his strong showing in Indonesia, and
will automatically qualify for Team Asia if he holds on to that position with just three tournaments left on the 2013 schedule – the Hong Kong Open, the Thailand Golf
Championship and the King’s Cup in Thailand.
‘One of my aims next year would be to qualify for the EurAsia Cup,’ Siddik told the Asian Tour official website.
‘It’s great to see such big events happening in Asia. I think I should be able to qualify. It would be an honour if I can represent Asia. I am excited about it and I
am looking forward to it.’
