The eight-year old Jamila asked her mother Mahinur Akhter to take her to her working place. As per her wish, Mahinur, 30, a domestic help, took Jamila to the place at Merul Badda where she worked as maid. Finishing her job, Mahinur was returning home in the evening along with her daughter, but a reckless bus put an end to their life, crushing them under its wheels Merul Badda Monday evening.
A witness, Md Nazrul, said that the accident occurred as a bus of Turag Paribahan knocked the mother and daughter while they were crossing the road in front of Asain Hospital in the area.
He said that the driver did not stop the bus after hitting the duo; rather it ran them over and left the scene.
Both the victims received serious injuries in their heads and died on spot because of excessive bleeding.
‘Before leaving for work, Mahinur told me not to worry. She said she would return home early and cook,’ said Jasim Sarder, Mahinur’s husband.
Jasim lives at the building where he works with his family and as he cannot manage the livelihood of the family alone, Mahinur became domestic help to help her family.
Among three children, Jamila, a Class-I student, was the youngest and the most beloved one.
The other two live at their village in Shariatpur.
Md Jafar Iqbal, the owner of the building where they lived and worked, said Jamila was very cheerful and used to play with his daughter as they were of the same age.
Meanwhile, agitated people vandalised a number of vehicles in the area after the accident.
