Allows police to quiz him at jail gate
A metropolitan magistrate’s court on Wednesday rejected a police prayer for remanding Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in custody for 10 days for interrogation in a case of arson attack on a running bus. The court of metropolitan magistrate MA Salam, however, allowed the investigating officer of the case to interrogate BNP joint secretary-general Rizvi, in a designated room at the jail gate, for 10 days, if necessary.
The magistrate also denied Rizvi’s plea for bail saying he would be sent to the Dhaka Central jail again.
Magistrate said that being an honourable person and sick, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi might be interrogated at the jail gate for 10 days, if needed.
On November 30, Rizvi was sent to jail after police had produced him before the court with a prayer for 10-day remand in the case filed with the Shahbagh police for arson attack on a running bus near Shishu Park on November 28 that killed at least three persons and injured 16 others.
The court also posted for December 4 the remand and bail hearing.
The police in plainclothes stormed into BNP central office at Nayapaltan in the city and arrested Rizvi breaking open a door in the early hours on November 29 while he was sleeping.
Besides the Shahbagh arson attack case, police had also implicated Rizvi in two more cases related to violence in September and November and sought him to be remanded in custody for interrogation in those cases although he was not named in the cases.
