BNP Vice Chairman Sadeque Hossain Khoka was arrested from Uttara area in the capital on Wednesday night. BNP leader was arrested in a joint drive by the Detective Branch of Police (DB) and the elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). Khoka, also the convener of the Dhaka city unit of BNP, was arrested from house no-18 at Road-15 of Sector-4 of Uttara around 10 pm, said a senior official of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Khoka’s personal assistant Monirul Islam confirmed the news to The Independent.
Khoka was accused in several cases including setting vehicles on fire during the opposition’s countrywide blockade programme.
Soon after the arrest, BNP spokesperson Salauddin Ahmed in a press release condemned the government move. He said the government arrested Khoka as it has become afraid of the opposition’s ongoing movement.
Terming Khoka’s arrest as an outcome of the government’s politics of vengeance, Salauddin demanded his immediate unconditional release and withdrawal of cases lodged against him.
