The 100-day countdown to the first match of the ICC World Twenty20 will begin at midnight tonight with the simultaneous unveiling of countdown clocks in the three host cities of Chittagong, Dhaka and Sylhet. Concerts by popular local music groups and celebratory displays will mark the occasion, which will start at 10pm and carry on into the early hours of Friday.Representatives of the Bangladesh men’s and women’s teams, as well as government, ICC and BCB officials, will join fans for the programmes.
In Dhaka, the countdown programme will be held at the South Plaza Gate of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Manik Mia Avenue. Programmes will be held simultaneously at Circuit House Circle, MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong and the Keane Bridge over the Surma River in Sylhet.
BCB president Nazmul Hassan and ICC events manager Chris Tetley will attend the event in Dhaka, along with cricketers Sakib al Hasan, Mahmudullah and national women’s team captain Salma Khatun.
Mayor Manzur Alam and BCB director AZM Nasir will take part in the celebrations in Chittagong, where Bangladesh players Nasir Hossain, Shohag Gazi and Sathira Jakir will also be present.
City mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury and BCB director Shafiul Alam Chowdhury will be joined by cricketers Anamul Haque and
Jahanara Ahmed at the function in Sylhet.
The first match of the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 will pit the hosts against Afghanistan at Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on March 16, 2014.
