Trophy on display in city today
The 100 days countdown of ICC World Twenty20 began with the unveiling of the clocks simultaneously at the early hour on Friday in the three host cities of Chittagong, Dhaka and Sylhet. Band shows by popular local music groups and celebratory displays marked the start at 10 pm on Thursday and carry into the early hours of Friday. A zero hour on Friday, the clocks were unveiled with the blazing fireworks to leave the audience awestruck.
Representatives of Bangladesh men’s and women’s teams as well as government, ICC and BCB officials joined fans at the selected locations for the T20 countdown programme.
BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon and ICC Events Manager Chris Tetley attended the event in Dhaka along with cricketers Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmud Ullah Ryad and national women’s team captain Salma Khatun.
Mayor Manzur Alam and BCB Director AZM Nasir took part in celebrations held in Chittagong where Bangladesh players Nasir Hossain, Shohag Gazi and Sathira Jakir were present, while the city Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury and BCB Director Shafiul Alam Chowdhury was joined by cricketers Anamul Haque and Jahanara Ahmed at the function in Sylhet.
The Dhaka’s clocks were set up at South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad, Gulshan-1 and 2, Mirpur-10 intersection, Bijoynagar intersection and Hazrat Shahjalal Airport in the city.
Meanwhile, the World Twenty20 Trophy would put on display on Friday in the city. Hyundai Motors Bangladesh Ltd., the sole distributor of Hyundai automobiles in Bangladesh, being one of the official sponsors of the tournament, would bring the trophy to Dhaka.
