Police arrested a man for impersonating a reporter of a private television channel in Sylhet city Saturday late night. The arrested was identified as Suman Ahmed, 26, of village Tajpur under Osmani Nagar police station in the district, the police said.
Local sources said Suman had been extracting money from a number of people of Dakkhin Surma in the city for the past several months.
On Saturday night, he introduced himself to the Sylhet bureau chief of SATV as a reporter of ntv.
At one point, the ntv Sylhet office chief ascertained that Suman was not a newsman and handed him over to Kotwali police at around 11:30pm, local reporters said.
Being contacted, Sylhet Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner Mohammad Ayub confirmed New Age of the arrest.
He said a false identity card of the ntv was also seized from the possession of Suman.
Kotwali police officer-in-charge Ataur Rahman told New Age that a case was filed against Suman with the police on charge of forgery.
‘He was produced in a judicial magistrate court Sunday noon when the court ordered him to be sent to jail in the case,’ the police officer said.
