Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has called a countrywide daylong strike for Monday protesting death warrant against its senior leader Abdul Quader Mollah.
Jamaat Acting Secretary General Shafiqur Rahman announced the programme in a press release on Sunday following the issue of a death warrant by the International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT-2) against war crimes convict Abdul Quader Mollah.
“We have announced the countrywide dawn-to-dusk strike on Monday protesting the government conspiracy
to carry out a political killing,” read the statement.
Shafiqur Rahman called upon the people from all walks of life to observe the strike peacefully to protest the “illegal and political killing”.
He termed the trial process politically motivated and said the government has been carrying out farcical trials with a view to realising its political vindictiveness.
Rahman also warned that the government will have to face a severe consequence if Quader Mollah is “killed ignoring the legal procedures and his constitutional rights.”
