The fire burnt a quilt and mattress manufacturing factory in Sylhet city Monday early morning.
Witnesses said the fire started from the electric wire of the Surma Bedding House at Ambarkhana in the city at around 5:00am and it rapidly burnt the shop.
A local businessman, Faruk Ahmed, said they called the fire brigade office for help immediately.
‘But, almost all the manufacturing goods and other valuables were burnt by the fire before the firefighting team reached at the spot as these were inflammable,’ he added.
Ward councillor Rezaul Hasan Ludi visited the spot immediately and said the total amount loss would be around Tk 8 lakh.
However, the Fire Service and Civil Defense assistant director, Shahidur Rahman, claimed that the loss would be worth around Tk 5 Lakh according to the primary assessment.
‘The fire originated from a short circuit,’ he added.
