An LPG bottling plant is now under construction on 7.5 acres of land at the Mongla port in Khulna at a cost of Tk 96 crore. The Rupsha Tank Terminal and Refinery Ltd has undertaken this project of setting up the bottling plant which is expected to start their commercial operation in January of 2015, said the company’s managing director, Aminul Haque. The implementation of the project would make LPG available to both urban and rural people, the MD said.
‘We have a plan to bottle at least 300 tones of LPG a day which would be increased depending on clients’ demand,’ he said.
Meanwhile, the ongoing political unrest is causing disruption in supply of LPG cylinders in Khulna city and dealers are allegedly charging exorbitant price of the cylinders.
A city shop owner, Md Haider Ali, alleged that he had to pay tk 1590 for a cylinder of 12.5 LPG on the last Saturday which was of tk 1470 a month ago.
A LPG cylinder dealer, Anisur Rahman, said that he was counting loss even by selling the cylinders at a high rate as the prices and carrying costs also increased for the ongoing blockade programme.
