President Abdul Hamid Tuesday attended the national memorial service for anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela. “Honourable President attended the memorial service for Nelson Mandela at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg with other heads of state and government,” said Presidents’ Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim from South Africa over phone. Over 100 current or former heads of state, including US President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, Cuban President Raul Castro, three former US presidents George W Bush, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon also joined the memorial service.
Besides world leaders, tens of thousands of South Africans gathered at the stadium to celebrate with singing, dancing and prayers the life of Mandela.
