The ruling Awami League is taking a massive preparation to face the countrywide violence and attack on its leaders and workers by BNP-Jamaat activists.
To stave off the opposition anarchy, the party has already asked its leaders and workers to forge resistance along with the law enforcing agency members after December 16. Besides, the party’s rank and file have been asked to remain vigilant until the upcoming election process is completed. If any leader even at the ward level fails to play his/her due role, he/she will be held responsible. Even the responsible party men may lose their party position, the party sources said.
Talking to The Independent Awami League presidium member Mohammad Nasim said AL leaders and workers have already been asked to forge resistance even at the ward level to face BNP-Jamaat’s anarchy across the country.
He said BNP-Jamaat was unleashing reign of terror across the country in the name of enforcing political programme. “AL does not believe in politics of violence, but AL leaders and workers will take to the streets along with the law enforcers to save life and property,” he said.
Meanwhile, at a function, Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif has called upon the party leaders and workers to forge resistance at each and every word to thwart the opposition’s violent activities.
“The opposition has unleashed a reign of terror across the country in the last couple of weeks. If they do the same after December 16, we will have to hit back wherever the ruling party leaders and workers come under attack,” he said.
He was addressing the party’s extended meeting with Dhaka district AL MPs and leaders, at the party headquarters at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city on Sunday.
He alleged that the opposition wants to engage in a quarrel with the ruling party leaders and activists. “But we have said it several times that we don’t want clashes with the opposition. If they carry on destructive activities, the members of law-enforcement agencies will take care of them,” he added.
At the same time, the AL leader called upon the opposition to stop violence and resolve the country’s prevailing political standoff.
About Saturday’s attack on ruling party leader Asaduzzaman Nur, AL joint general secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanok said anti-liberation forces had attacked Nur to kill him. “So, we will have to put up a massive resistance against the BNP-Jamaat,” he added.
At the meeting, the central leaders also discussed about the party’s December 16 procession, which will start from the historic Suhrawardi Uddyan and end at Dhanmondi 32. The party high-ups have asked leaders and workers to ensure huge participation at the victory procession to make it a success.
Dhaka city Awami League acting president MA Aziz presided over the meeting.
