Tens of thousands of people from all walks of life enjoyed inspirational songs rendered at the daylong Victory Day celebrations programme at the Suhrawardy Udyan on Monday.
Wearing the red and green attires, many of them attended the programme with face paintings in colours of the national flag and sang along with the leading artistes of the country. The patriots rendered the national anthem in chorus exactly at 4.31pm, the very moment when the invading Pakistani army officially surrendered at the same place 42 years ago.
They also enthusiastically participated with the solo and group renditions of the inspirational songs performed by the leading artistes and troupes.
Theatre, band music and recitation of patriotic poems were the other major attractions of the daylong event.
The programme titled ‘Bijoyer Surjodoy Bangladesh Biswamay’ was organised jointly by Gana Jagaran Mancha, Sector Commanders’ Forum, Bijoy 2013 Celebrated Committee to celebrate of the glorious 43rd Victory Day.
Artistes of Chhayanaut presented some timeless inspirational songs such as Janatar Sangram Cholbei, Himaloy Theke Sundorban Hotath Bangladesh and Phool Phelbar Din Noy.
Satyen Sen Shilpy Gosthi presented people’s songs such as Ekkattorer Shokun Gulo Urchhe Abar and Ki Ajgubi Karbar featuring the hatred on the heinous activities of the Pakistani collaborators and their rehabilitation in the post war.
For the delight of the thousands of audience in the open air programme, Udichi Shilpi Gosthi also presented songs with strong messages such as Gram Theke Jege Utho Sohor Theke Jege Utho and Jiban Moder Durbisoho.
A team from Bangla Academy led by Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra artistes Kalyani Ghosh and Manoranjan Ghosal joined at the programme and rendered the National Anthem along others. With his stentorian voice, Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra artiste Rafiqul Islam rendered Purba Digante Surjo Uthechhe.
Recitation artiste Jharna Sarkar presented poet Shamsur Rahman’s classic Swadhinota Tumi while Naila Tabassum Chowdhury Kakoli presented some parts of noted poet-playwright Syed Shamsul Haque’s play Payer Awaz Paowa Jay.
Theatre Department of Dhaka University staged a play depicting the very moment of surrender of the Pakistani force 42 years ago, which reminded the audience about the most prestigious incident in the history of the nation.
A spectacular fireworks show was lined up for the evening, after which popular bands performed at the programme.
The show began with Sohortoli’s presentation of Matar Kachhe Chithi. Maqsood O Dhaka presented its popular number Parwardegar. The audience danced with the track of the band Abar Juddhe Jete Hobey.
Cryptic Fate rocked the crowd presenting a heavy metal number Jatodin Achhi. The band’s next performance was a soft rock patriotic number Chalo Bangladesh.
Drik performed another patriotic number Amrai Bangladesh and also rendered the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s inspirational song Mora Jhonjhar Mato Uddam synchronised with the western musical instruments.
A delighted audience at the open air concert Ruhul Kabir, a business man from Mirpur, who attended the programme with his two sons, said, ‘It was unique day in my life as I sang the national anthem with millions of people. My sons also enjoyed the fireworks very much.’
Nabin, a class five student, came at the programme with his father. ‘I enjoyed the show. It is a charming experience for me to see the huge number of people, the fireworks and even the songs,’ he said.
