5th SAARC conclave kicks off in Delhi today
A Bangladesh delegation, led by commerce minister Tofail Ahmed, left Dhaka for New Delhi on Thursday to attend the fifth edition of the SAARC Business Leaders Conclave, beginning today.
During his first visit to India after being a minister of the new cabinet, Tofail will meet his Indian counterpart — minister for commerce and industry Anand Sharma — and other Indian dignitaries.
The two sides are expected to discuss ways of further improving trade relations between the two countries in the bilateral as well as SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) framework, according to a media release issued by the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.
Additional secretary Murtozaa Reza Chowdhury and business leaders are accompanying the commerce minister.
The SAARC Business Leaders Conclave will focus on strengthening trade relations and regional integration apart from enhancing people-to-people contact.
The SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry is hosting the two-day event with the theme ‘South Asian Country: Progressing towards Regional Integration’ in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
Issues relating to the South Asia Free Trade Area (Safta) and establishing a duty-free region by 2016 in light with Safta will be discussed in various sessions of the conclave.
