3 more die on 2nd day
The Bishwa Ijema, held in two phases, concludes today with offering of “Akheri Munajat’ (final prayer) on the bank of Turag river in Tongi, outskirts of capital Dhaka.
A million people are expected to join the prayer at the Bishaw Ijtema, an annual event joined by people from home and abroad. On the second day yesterday of the second and final phase of congregation, the largest after Hajj in Saudi Arabia, Maulana Haji Abdul Wahab of Pakistani delivered sermon in Urdu after Fajr prayer, which Maulana Delwar Hossain of Bangladesh translated in Bangla. After johr prayer, Maulana Ismail Godra of India and after Asr prayer Maulana Jobairul Hasan of India spoke. Devotees from 33 districts included Dhaka attended the second phase of Ijtema. They all are praying, reciting holy Quran and Hadidth and listening to the sermons.
However, three more devotees died yesterday raising the number of death toll to eight in the second phase of the Ijtema. Most of them died of natural causes.
On January 26, the three-day first phase of the two-phase congregation ended with the offering of Akheri Munajat.
