Usha KC and Abahani will look to take an edge into the Green Delta Insurance Premier Division Hockey League’s Super League when they meet at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium today.
Both title contenders are on five-game winning streaks and will welcome reinforcements from Pakistan to strengthen their sides ahead of the next phase of the competition.
‘It will not be easy to repeat the feat what we did against [Abahani] in the Club Cup final as they became stronger with the inclusion of Pakistani players,’ Usha coach Mamunur Rashid said on Sunday, ‘But we will go there for all three points.’
He also said that Usha themselves have four players from Pakistan: Newas, Shafkat, Imran and Ashfaq.
Abahani brought in Pakistani players Shezad, Kashif, Towsif and Hasim for the match with Usha and the three Super League contests.
‘We are not thinking of dropping points; rather we are focused on earning all three points in our attempt to become champions,’ said Abahani defender Moshiur Rahman Biplob.
On Sunday, Azad SC beat last-place Dhaka Wanderers Club 2-1 to finish sixth in the seven-team league. Mahbub Ali and Mohammad Mohsin scored for Azad, who finished with four points. Rimu scored for Wanderers, who managed just one point from six matches.
