The prices of mutton, broiler and vegetables increased on the retail markets in the city over the week ending Friday due to supply shortage, traders said.
The price of mutton increased by Tk 30-Tk 50 a kg and was selling at Tk 480-Tk 500 a kg over the week in the city. ‘The the price of mutton increased a bit in the city as the supply of goat have been decreased in last couple of week,’ Hafizur Rahman, a trader at Shantinagar kitchen market, told New Age.
He said that not only supply shortage but the animal price also increased across the country and so the price of mutton increased.
The price of broiler increased by Tk 10 a kg and it was selling at Tk 140-Tk 150 a kg on Friday while the locally-breed hens were selling at Tk 250-Tk 350 a piece of 800 grams to one kg.
The price of beef remained unchanged and it was selling at Tk 270 to Tk 280 a kg on the day.
The prices of aubergine, bitter gourd and green chilli increased by Tk 10-Tk 20 a kg and the items were selling at Tk 50-Tk 60 a kg, Tk 60-Tk 80 a kg and Tk 50 a kg respectively on Friday.
Traders said that the price of some vegetables increased due to off-seasonal shortage.
The prices of other vegetables remained steady over the week.
Bean was retailing at Tk 30-Tk 40 a kg, cucumber at Tk 40 a kg, okra at Tk 100 a kg and radish at Tk 15 a kg, cauliflower at Tk 25 a piece, cabbage at Tk 20 a piece, carrot at Tk 20 a kg, tomato at Tk 30 a kg, and papaya at Tk 25 a kg on Friday.
The price of onion remained unchanged and the item was selling at Tk 30 a kg over the week.
The price of bottled soya bean oil (five litres) remained unchanged and it was selling at Tk 575-Tk 585 in the city’s kitchen markets. The unpacked soya bean oil was retailing at Tk 112-Tk 115 a kg.
The price of egg remained unchanged and it was selling at Tk 28 a hali (four pieces) on Friday.
The price of local red lentil remained unchanged and the item was retailing at Tk 108 a kg on Friday.
Potato was retailing at Tk 10-Tk 15 a kg and sugar was selling at Tk 48-Tk 50 a kg.
Fish prices remained almost unchanged over the week.
Rohita was selling at Tk 200-Tk 350 a kg on Friday, pangas at Tk 100-Tk 150 a kg and tilapia at Tk 150-Tk 180 a kg, depending on their size and quality.
The prices of rice remained high and the fine varieties of miniket were selling at Tk 48-Tk 52 a kg while its coarse varieties were retailing at Tk 44-Tk 46 a kg.
The fine varieties of BR-28 was selling at Tk 42-Tk 45 a kg and coarse varieties of parija were selling at Tk 38-Tk 40 a kg.
