BNP Secretary General Khondaker Delwar Hossain on Friday demanded fair trial of all killings, including the August 21, 2004 grenade attack on an Awami League rally.
“We are against all killings, including the August 21 carnage. When we were in power, there was an investigation into the tragic incident of August 21. Now a reinvestigation is going on” he said.
“We want the real culprits to be found out through fair and neutral investigation,” he added.
Delwar was talking to reporters after placing wreaths at the mazar of party founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e- Banglanagar in the city.
Led by the BNP secretary general, the newly-formed Dhaka City Committee of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) placed the wreaths.
Replying to the question whether the BNP would join the next parliament session starting September 7, Delwar alleged that the government has failed to create an atmosphere for return of the opposition to parliament.
He said the last caretaker government filed cases against political leaders to harass them. The present government is withdrawing the cases against the ruling party leaders not those against the opposition leaders, he added.
The BNP secretary general urged the government to take tough actions against terrorism and extortion.
BNP Student Affairs Secretary Fazlul Haq Milon, Juba Dal Organizing Secretary Khairul Kabir Khokan, Chhatra Dal President Sultan Salah-uddin Tuku, General Secretary Amirul Islam Khan Alim, and other leaders, including Habibunnabi Khan Sohel, Azizul Bari Helal, SM Jahangir and Habibur Rashid Habib, were present, among
others.
