Fans, relatives and peers of noted actor Khaled Khan gathered on his 57th birth anniversary celebrations programme held on Sunday morning at the Bakultala of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University.
Khaled Khan Janmobarsiki Udzapan Parisad organised the programme titled Juboraj Jayanti in memory of that great artiste who died on December 20, 2013 at BIRDEM Hospital in Dhaka after suffering from motor neuron disease and respiratory problems for a long time. The actor was remembered through discussion session, theatre and music.
The programme began with a beautiful yet melancholic flute piece by flute artiste Maniruzzaman. The charming melody of that wind instrument created a pleasant atmosphere in the arena on that early winter morning.
Artistes of Dhrupadi Kala Kendrea delighted the listeners with their group presentation of song Poush Faguner Pala while artistes of the Parisad presented a production of Tagore songs including Ore Ore Amar Mon, Tumi Daak Diyechho Kon Sokale, Tomar Howai Howai, and few others.
The main attraction of the programme was the presentation of selected parts of Rabindranath Tagore’s Raktakarobi by the artistes of Nagorik Natya Sampradaya. The theatre troupe presented the parts of the play featuring Bitu, the character enacted by Khaled Khan, as a tribute to the artiste.
Bhajan Khepa rendered the timeless song Helai Helai Din Boye Jay in a solo performance.
Noted theatre personality and world wide president of International Theatre Institute Ramendu Majumdar recollected his memories with Khaled Khan in his speech.
Nazrul exponent Rafiqul Islam, also the professor Emeritus of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, added that Khaled Khan was a great administrator when he served as the treasurer, registrar, finance director and deputy director of institution.
Khaled Khan gained his popularity both on television and on stage as he acted in numerous plays. He joined the leading theater group Nagorik Natya Sampradaya in 1978. He has received many awards including the IT Theatre Award 2013. He was born in Tangail on February 9, 1958. In his last days, he worked as the treasurer for University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh.
